Digital 2023: A world of digital technology. A new report

Selpway - explosive growth of your sales!
Change has long been the only stable phenomenon in our lives. This is also true for e-commerce, which has been taking a tangible share of retail sales around the world for a number of years now.

Over the last twelve months, user behaviour online has changed dramatically and evolved in the most unexpected ways. The new Digital 2023 Global Report demonstrates this. In numbers, it is easier to present the changes in global online trends.

- At the beginning of 2023, the global population reached 8.01 billion people.
- By the end of 2023, one in five sales will be made online.
- The number of internet users worldwide has increased by 1.9% in the last 12 months.
- At the beginning of 2023, a total of 5.44 billion people will be using mobile phones, representing 68% of the world's population.
- Today, there are 5.16 billion Internet users worldwide, which means that 64.4% of the world's population is now online.
- Just over 57% of the world's population now lives in cities.
Customers and markets
Consumers continue to look for bargains, and if they are satisfied, it is relatively easy for them to switch to competitors. Also, unstable markets encourage them to explore and find new solutions, with 41% of customers abandoning familiar brands. Retaining customers is difficult. Advertising costs are rising, too.
In 2023, engaging customers on social media will be profitable through collaborations - collaborations between businesses that don't compete with each other. Partnerships will leverage each other's audiences and provide mutual exposure at low cost.
Time online
The amount of time users spend online has fallen by almost 5% in a year! We have 20 minutes less to "hang out" online! This is an unexpected finding and a reason for reflection.

The world is going online
Although online users are changing their "search behaviour", the habit of "living" online is likely to become part of the modern person's image. What's convenient will remain in their lives in 2023: getting what they want quickly, on time and from the comfort of their own homes. Ordering goods, working, eating out, communicating with friends have all become commonplace and necessary.
6 out of 10 Internet users (57.8%) still turn to online resources when looking for information.

The number of social media users continues to grow
Social channels such as Instagram and Facebook are still as popular as ever. Facebook ranks third in terms of the average time users spend on the platform daily. That's almost 20 hours a month. The typical internet user spends more than 2.5 hours a day on social media. The total number of social media users worldwide has increased by almost 30% since the pandemic began. Plus another 1 billion in the last 3 years.
Symbiosis: online and offline
The popularity of online business and the growth of online shopping indicate that the world will continue to see an increase in the share of e-commerce in overall shopping activity and retail spending in the coming years.

Current research from GWI and Statista shows that in 2022, consumers are buying both online and in conventional shops, although their spending on online purchases has risen significantly.

This trend is likely to continue in 2023. Shoppers will order online and occasionally make offline purchases.
